field screening of rice genotypes for salinity tolerance in mazandaran

چکیده

to evaluate tolerance of rice genotypes (oryza sativa l.) to soil/water salinity and to utilize selected tolerant genotypes in rice breeding program and further agronomy and physilogical studies 56 rice genotypes have been evaluated. of which 40 rice genotypes from international rice research institute (irri) together with 16 selected tolerant rice genotypes have been tested in two separate experiments in locations with coastal and in-land salinity sources in sari and amol, mazandaran, iran, respectively during 2006-7. experiments were set in randomized complete block design (rcbd) with 3 replications in each site. genotypes were evaluated for salinity code, plant height, tiller number, panicle sterility, 100-grain weight, grain yield/plant. due to photoperiod sensitivity of some rice genotypes in experiment 1, data only for salinity code, plant height and tiller number has been analysed. results of analysis of variance showed presence of significantly difference for all evaluated traits. based on results of the experiments and farmers preferance 4 rice genotypes including binam, hashemi, ir67075-2b-5-2 and ir67075-2b-18-2 showed better performance and has been selected for rice breeding program and further agronomy and physiological tests.

Evaluation of salinity tolerance in rice genotypes

Salinity is considered as one of important physical factors influencing rice (Oryza sativa L.) production. Knowledge of salinity effects on rice seedling growth and yieldcomponents would improve management practices in fields andincrease our understanding of salt tolerance mechanisms in rice. This study was designed to assess the role of Saltol QTL in regards to effects of salinity on plant gro...

Greenhouse and Field Screening for Salinity Tolerance

Developing alfalfa varieties with tolerance to salinity requires a multi-prong research approach. Because of the complexity of the plant by environment interaction a combination of laboratory, field and greenhouse selection techniques is most effective in addressing this complicated trait. At Forage Genetics our breeding strategy for salinity tolerance includes high throughput laboratory and gr...

Genetic variation in Southern USA rice genotypes for seedling salinity tolerance

The success of a rice breeding program in developing salt tolerant varieties depends on genetic variation and the salt stress response of adapted and donor rice germplasm. In this study, we used a combination of morphological and physiological traits in multivariate analyses to elucidate the phenotypic and genetic variation in salinity tolerance of 30 Southern USA rice genotypes, along with 19 ...

RICE CULTURE Screening Rice Cultivars for Salinity Tolerance Using a Simple Laboratory Incubation

The research presented here highlights the use of a simple incubation procedure to evaluate the relative salt tolerance of currently available rice cultivars over a wide range of salt concentrations. Rice seeds were subjected to a series of salt solutions from 0 to 20 micromhos/cm, and the ability of each cultivar to germinate and develop to the S3 growth stage was evaluated. Germination values...

Genetic Structure of Salinity Tolerance in Rice at Seedling Stage

The Oryza sativa L. F8 population derived from a cross between salt tolerance cv. Ahlemi Tarom and salt sensitive cv. Neda was used in the study. Germinated seeds floated on water for 3 d, and after were transferred to float on Yoshida's nutrient solution for 11 d. two weeks after sowing, the seedling was transferred to nutrient solution containing 51.19 mM NaCl (electrical conductivity 6 dSm-1...

Genetic Analysis of Salinity Tolerance in Rice

The genetics of’ salinity tolerance in rice was studied by visual scoring in parents F1 F2 and backcross generations of six crosses. Segregation analysis indicated partial dominance for salinity tolerance. Estimation of genetic parameters under epistatic model indicated the importance of additive effects in the inheritance of salinity tolerance. Highly significant additive type of gene action i...
